| What is No Limit Holdem Poker?
Simply put it is "Putting a man to a decision for all his chips" (Doyle Brunson) and to me that is really all it is, you and me, one of us banks and one of us tanks.
It is the most pure combat you can get, I want to put you to the test, I want you to fail that test. At least that is the well designed plan however there have been a couple of times that the well designed plan hasn't work out and I am still looking into that.
I would like to say that the poker world is full of really nice people. By my last count the world is about 50% assholes. You get around 1 asshole per 100 at the poker table and the great thing there is you can drill his stack and make him pay for his birth control personality right then and there, buy a Rolex at the jewelry store on the way up to take Lucy for pancakes.
Lucy always laughs about it every time we go to Vegas. We normally roll in around 3:00 in the afternoon limo to the hotel check in to the room, knock around town, catch a nice dinner at the Luxor steakhouse.
This routine gives us just enough time for Lui to blow her $5.00 limit at nickel video poker and I walk her back to the room. I load up and she is already in her jammies and in bed (Hey it is 9:30 at night after all) kiss an angel on the head and your hero is out into the night. 8 or 9 hours of brilliant traps and it is time to pick up Lucy for breakfast.
We are at the buffet and in an hour I have talked to more of my poker buddies from last night to convince anyone I live in the hotel. Lui just shakes her head.
The amount of nice people you meet at the table is only overshadowed by the diversity... 65 year old grandmother with pictures to show next to the college professor representing aces (He has rags) American Airlines is tucked under the over the road truckers don't mess with Texas silver dollar hole card protector.
The CPA from Ohio, Retired pet store owner and wide eyed 21 year old college student have already folded.
The one common thread I have found in almost all the players I have sat down with is if your nice to them and they are nice to you, everyone is in the adult equivalent of Disneyland and having a ball.
Now don't forget the dealers, waitresses and cardroom managers, finding nicer people than this group will take a while for sure.
So that is the primer on poker and why I love it. I am including a list of topics below I plan on covering as we go along if you think of one that I should add send me an email and I will tack it on.
